The use of microscope is known as microscopy.The first compound microscope was developed by zacharias janssan in holland in 1595.It was simply a tube with lenses at each end and its magnification range is from 3xto 9x.Two important terms are used in microscopy i.e magnification and resolving power .Magnification is the increase in the apparent size of an object and it is an important factor in microscopy .Resolving power or resolution power is the measure of clarity of an object.It is minimum distant at with two object are separate .Human naked eye can differ between two objects .Which are at least 0.1 mm apart.This is known as resolution power of human eye.
Light Microscope:
A light microscope work by passing visible light through specimen .It used two glass lenses .One lens produces an enlarged image of the specimen and second one project the image to the viewers eye or on to photographic film.A picture taken through microscope is called
micro graph.
a light microscope can magnify an object about 1500 times without causing blurriness i.e it magnification range is 1500x .Its resolving power is 0.2 micrometer .and 1 micrometer =1/1000 mm .In other words the LM cannot magnify an object smaller then 1/1000 mm .It is about the size of smallest bacteria the image of bacterium can magnify able many time but it cannot gave information about it internal straucture.
